Everything People Ask Before Buying a Cold Plunge
A cold plunge is a considered purchase, and most people arrive with the same handful of questions. Below are the ones we hear most, answered the way we would answer them on the phone. No hype, just the honest version, so you can decide whether a plunge fits your space and your life.

How cold does a cold plunge actually get?
Our flagship, the Cold Stoic 3.0, holds water anywhere from 37°F to 104°F degrees, so it does cold and hot. Most owners settle around 45°F to 55°F degrees for their cold work and adjust from there. There is no single right number. You set it where it feels useful and repeatable for you, and you can change it whenever you like. If you are not sure where to start, our team broke down how cold it should actually be and how long to stay in.
Do you need chemicals to keep the water clean?
No. The plunge cleans itself with an ozone system that breaks down oils and bacteria and then returns to plain oxygen, paired with filtration that catches the fine debris. A few simple drop-in tools keep it clear between water changes: an oil absorbing buoy that skims body oils and sunscreen off the surface, and a sanitizing mineral stick that keeps algae and bacteria from settling in. You will find both in our maintenance collection.
How often do you change the filter?
Less often than most people expect, and it is a two-minute job once you know where to look. There are two filters. The primary sits inside the tank, behind a pop-off intake cover, and rinses out by hand. The larger secondary filter, the XL, lives in the mechanics bay behind the vent panel; the included filter housing wrench loosens its housing, and you hand-tighten it closed. Here is the step-by-step video.
The primary rinses every two to four weeks, or whenever the ozone bubbles slow. It is reusable, so a rinse does the job for about three to four cleanings, then you drop in a fresh one, roughly every three to six months. The XL runs on a longer cycle, a rinse every six to ten weeks and a replacement after a few reuses. How often really comes down to how much you use it, and things like sunscreen and lotions. If you would rather not track it, our annual maintenance package sends everything you need for the year.

A routine you can actually keep starts with a plunge that is easy to own
How do you fill and drain it?
You fill it with a standard garden hose, and you drain it in about twenty minutes with the pump that comes with it. There is no plumbing and no hookups to install. Here is a quick fill and drain walkthrough.
Do you need an electrician to set it up?
For the Cold Stoic 3.0, no. It plugs into a standard household outlet. We recommend giving it its own dedicated circuit so nothing else competes with it, but there is no special wiring and no plumbing. You can find the full power and dimension details on our specification sheet.
How hard is it to set up?
Most people go from delivery to first plunge in an afternoon. You place it where you want it, fill it with a hose, plug it in, let the pump prime for a few minutes, set your temperature, and you are in.
Can you put it indoors, or only outside?
Both. Our plunges are built for indoor or outdoor use. You just want a level, water-safe spot with a little room to reach the mechanics for filter changes.

How heavy is it, and how do you move it?
The Cold Stoic 3.0 is about 365 pounds empty, and delivery is curbside. The lid and step lift off, and the chiller can be removed to lighten it for the move, so two people can walk it into place.
Can you use it through winter?
Yes. Our units are built for cold weather, with insulation and freeze protection that hold the water where you set it no matter how cold it gets outside, so your routine does not stop when the season turns. If you are ever away for a long stretch during a hard freeze, we have a simple winterizing guide.
What if something goes wrong, who do you call?
A real person on our team. Every plunge is backed by an industry-leading five-year warranty and responsive human support. It is a point of pride for us; you can read how we think about service, and you can reach us any time, before or after you buy.
What if I want the full ritual, cold and heat?
Many owners pair their plunge with an infrared sauna for the full contrast experience. Alternating cold and heat may support recovery and circulation, and it is the ritual a lot of people build their week around. When you are ready, you can explore our Clearlight infrared saunas and read more about contrast therapy, including how one designer fit a full setup into a ten-foot side yard.
